Got a boarding pass on the Sassafras Supersonic

Painted in Monday monochrome
And I’ll cruise in class on the Sassafras Supersonic

Got my hair slicked back from my intergalactic travels
In a blaze of glory my story begins to unravel
On a Stingray Silver Streak
I’m an astronaut or so to speak
And I’ll never get back from my intergalactic travels

Riding on the wings of the "Sassafras Supersonic," I whisk myself back to those endless childhood days under Seattle skies, where the dreams of outer space and the thrill of speed merged into a singular, driving desire. This track is more than a song; it's a time machine, built from the echoes of my Stingray bike's roar — its banana seat and sissy bar cradling my dreams, and its ape hanger bars steering me through the cosmos just as fast as I could make it go.

The era of the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo space programs wasn't just a backdrop for my youth; it was the thrilling canvas upon which I painted my ambitions of space, additionally fueled by the awe-inspiring vision of Boeing's Mach 3 Super Sonic Transport (SST) which promised future flight at breathtaking speeds. Sassafras Supersonic isn't just a nod to that iconic plane (whose mockup drawing was postered on my bedroom wall); it embodies the essence of a time when we didn't view the sky as a limit but rather a starting point.

The song's countdown chorus ignites the engines of  those childhood imaginations, propelling me beyond nostalgia into the weightlessness of memory. This song is a tribute to the child in all of us who once looked up at the night sky and saw not just stars, but possibilities.
