Blow Away ©2024 Stephen A Schuster

Calliope inspires me
Her gentle gift of poetry
Lends comfort, peace and clarity
We all must blow away

Music she’s my symphony
My cradle, care and sympathy
Our lives, but serendipity
We all must blow away

Blow away we must
Back to ashes, back to dust
My soul’s sweet wanderlust
Away we blow

Destiny runs short or long
Our path is never right, our path is never wrong
Our sendoff sketched in sorrow’s song
We all must blow away

Blow away we must
Back to ashes, back to dust
My soul’s sweet wanderlust
Away we blow

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the lord my soul to keep
I’ve tasted Eden’s apple tree
No paradise was lost on me
Just cherished blessed memory
Inspired by Calliope

And now we know love’s costly price
Our thoughts and prayers will not suffice
In love, our final sacrifice
We all must blow away

Blow away we must
Back to ashes, back to dust
My soul’s sweet wanderlust
Away we blow

"Blow Away" is a soul-stirring tribute to Calliope, the ancient Greek Muse of epic poetry, music, song, and dance. The song honors the timeless muse's influence, bringing together elements of mythology, music, and a candid (if not blunt) contemplation of life's transient nature. Drawing inspiration from the eloquence and grandeur of George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass," "Blow Away" explores the ephemeral essence of existence, acceptance and a serene acknowledgment of life's inevitable cycle.

Extending beyond admiration for Calliope; this song's narrative engages in some unabashed navel-gazing into the human condition, reflecting on destiny, love and our inevitable return to dust. The bridge, a nod to both an 18th century children's bedtime prayer and the allegorical richness of the Garden of Eden, alongside a reference to 17th century poet and polemicist John Milton, connects the dots between divine inspiration and human experience, expressing admiration for the creative expression that bridges them.
